The history of psychiatry in Black communities is examined in this course, which also gives trainees useful techniques to help those in mental and emotional distress. With roots in Black history, Afro-Indigenous knowledge, and collective care customs, participants learn how to provide care, defuse tense situations, confront ableism, and react without the use of carceral systems. This participatory program, which is intended for community members and helping professionals of all racial origins, builds communities where healing, safety, and liberation are shared responsibilities and promotes networks of care.
