This is a free event RSVP with the link down below but space is limited. \n  \nThis year\, AFA invites you to join them for a special celebration of Willie Birch: Stories to Tell\, the newly published volume accompanying the landmark touring exhibition co-organized by the American Federation of Arts and the New Orleans Museum of Art. \n  \nNamed after the exhibition\, Willie Birch: Stories to Tell marks the first publication dedicated to the first-ever career retrospective of renowned artist and cultural provocateur Willie Birch. Richly illustrated and featuring original scholarship\, the book explores Birch’s remarkable six-decade career\, highlighting his unique vision of Black American life and the interconnected nature of global art forms. \n  \nTo celebrate the book’s release\, Russell Lord\, Chief of Curatorial Affairs at the Norman Rockwell Museum and editor of Willie Birch: Stories to Tell\, will join Jon Key\, the publication’s designer\, for a conversation about bringing the volume to life. DESCRIPTION:The history of psychiatry in Black communities is examined in this course\, which also gives trainees useful techniques to help those in mental and emotional distress. DESCRIPTION:The Skylight Open is a community-building event features a variety of acts\, such as spoken word\, dance\, film screenings\, music concerts\, and other cultural events.The Billie monthly music spoken word series Skylight Open\, which debuted in 2018\, features innovative movement based Brooklyn artists Produced by Hollis King. A fusion of daring musicians and movement performers.  \nThe July 16 lineup includes: \n\nAshlyn Christina\, Founder and Artistic Director of the Purpose Performing Arts Collective\, LLC and winner of Brooklyn Unplugged.\nAleijuan\, Musician.\nKim Brandon\, Poet/Artist/Activist/Storyteller. Her work has been included in stage performances\, anthologies\, and journals. She is a Brooklyn Poets’ Poet of the Week\, a VONA alum\, and has attended Wild Seed Retreats and a Cave Canem Writers Workshop.
