SUMMARY:The Dance: Tap Dance\, from Master Juba to Hip Hop
DESCRIPTION:Whether you love to dance or are still trying to get your best moves\, The Dance will feature Free lessons on Tap Dancing! This is a great opportunity to get out to learn\, dance\, and explore your full potential. \nThis event will feature stars Joseph Webb and friends for an interactive and engaging exploration of tapping and its historical relationship to New York City. \nIn the past\, Africans enslaved in Kings County brought their traditions and creativity to the markets in Manhattan\, where they sold produce in the early 19th century. These “dancing for eels” competitions likely helped dancers earn more money and inspired styles that came to define American music. \nKicking the event will be African American Master Juba\, considered the father of tapping. This performance takes the audience on a journey from the early 1800s\, through the swing jazz and bebop era\, to modern-day hip-hop. \nMuch Later\, Attendees will receive a beginner-level tap lesson at the start of the program\, so they can participate in some of the historic moves to follow. \nThe Dance tap performance at Lefferts Historic House encourages people to bring tap shoes if available\, but they aren’t required. \nGet Your Free Tickets At: The Dance: Tap Dance\, from Master Juba to Hip Hop
